A Few Words from the Director

The Shihmen Reservoir, located in Taoyuan, serves a myriad of functions such as providing household and industrial waters, regulating water resources, and facilitating flood prevention and protection. Its surrounding terrain and water environments give birth to a remarkably unique environmental landscape as well as tourism and hospitality-oriented human environments. The large number of driftwood pushed to shores by waves is like gifts from nature, where the driftwood serves as materials that inspire the creative imagination of artists (and even the audience), enabling them to create various sculptures or environmental installations.

The 2017 Taoyuan International Driftwood Art Festival, themed on art improvisation and live exhibition, actively applies the aforementioned recycled natural resource. Such an endeavor explores, creates, and displays the art potential of driftwood and opens new opportunities in shaping urban aesthetics and local art characteristics.
